Database Management System (DBMS) is used to optimize and manage the storage and retrieval of data from databases. DBMS offers a systematic approach to manage databases and workloads accessing the databases.

DBMS allows users to create their own databases as per their requirement. DBMS has various advantages and properties over traditional file system.

In this article, we learn various category of DBMS users.

Users in a DBMS environment :

Following, are the various category of users of a DBMS system :

  1. Database Administrators :
    Database Admin is responsible for managing the entire DBMS system. He/She is called Database admin or DBA. Administrators also look after DBMS resources like system license, required tools, and other software and hardware related maintenance.

  2. Application Programmers :
    Application programmers (also known as designers) write programs in various programming languages to interact with databases. Designers are the group of people who actually work on the designing part of the database. They identify and design the whole set of entities, relations, constraints, and views.

  3. End-Users :
    End users are those who actually reap the benefits of having a DBMS. They conduct various operations on database like retrieving, updating, deleting, etc.
