Need for DBMS

By | September 19, 2020

Database Management System (DBMS) is a system software for easy, efficient and reliable data processing and management. It can be used for:

  1. Creation of a database.
  2. Updating the database.
  3. Managing a database.
  4. Retrieval of information from the database.

Need of DBMS :
Database systems are basically developed for large amount of data. When dealing with huge amount of data, there are two things that require optimization: Storage of data and retrieval of data. The main purpose of database systems is to manage the data.

DBMS can help address the employee count scenario and a range of even more complex situations related to cost, order status or inventory management by presenting the same data to everyone in the business at the same time. Managing this data deluge becomes increasingly difficult just at the moment when superior data management becomes more important to business success.

These are advantages of using DBMS over traditional file system.

  • Reduced data redundancy
  • Reduced data entry, storage, and retrieval costs
  • Improved data security
  • Reduced updating errors and increased consistency
  • Facilitated development of new applications program
  • Greater data integrity and independence from applications programs
  • Improved data access to users through use of host and query languages
